2020-2021 retrospective, new pricing and Premium subscription announcement

Dear Lychee Slicer users and resin 3D printer users,

I would like to share with you some news about Lychee Slicer and the changes we will make soon.

The last 18 months have been fantastic for Lychee Slicer, with numerous releases bringing many improvements, a (very) large number of new features, optimizations for a productivity boost, and so much more.

But most importantly, the number of users has grown exponentially, with an ever-growing community of enthusiasts, newcomers to the fantastic world of 3D printing, and many professionals discovering a new job in the process.

To give you an idea of the popularity of Lychee Slicer, more than 1,500,000 slices have been generated in the last 10 months, not counting those that have not been recorded in the users’ history.

We would like to tip our hats to all these creators, Patreons, who propose more impressive models ever, brimming with creativity every month. Moreover, most Patreons, both the largest and the smallest, provide pre-supported 3D models prepared in Lychee Slicer. It makes us proud and pushes us to offer them more and more tools to make this preparation process as easy and productive as possible.

Of course, we don’t stop here, and we continue to work hard (insert cruel lack of sleep here…) to bring you new tools and solutions that we think are innovative. 2022 will be exciting, believe us!

Pricing adjustments

However, we will be making some pricing adjustments to our subscriptions, which will only affect new customers*. Our current customers are not affected. This change will occur  with the release of Lychee Slicer 3.6, scheduled during the week of November 22, 2021

• We will end the ‘launch’ promotion that offered a significant discount for the first year of Lychee Slicer 3.
• The price remains the same for the monthly subscription, at 5.99 EUR / month.
• The price for the yearly subscription will increase slightly, at 65.99 EUR / year (one month free).

VAT (for European customers)

In addition to that, from now on, we will have to add VAT and other local taxes only for new and customers, mainly European ones. Until now, we deducted these taxes from our margin.

The regulation changed in July 2021 and we should have made this change at that time, which was not possible for technical reasons.

Why this change in pricing?

As you can imagine, we couldn’t let a promotion goes on forever.
But another reason is that our infrastructure costs have (drastically) increased to let us develop amazing new features in the future. The first one to take advantage of this will be available in version 3.6.

With such a low price, we have too little room to innovate and especially to take risks for research and development and innovations. And we have billions of ideas to develop, to provide you with a better 3D printing experience. We also want to stop paying our (talented) developers with burgers and French Belgian fries!!

We believe that these prices are still quite reasonable for the tools we offer and in line with the prices in the 3D printing world. We remain, monthly, way much cheaper than a 1kg bottle of super low-price resin or a burger. And for your health, it’s better to invest in Lychees (and Mangos!)

If you were hesitating, it’s time to subscribe to take advantage of the old pricing while it is still possible!* 😉

Premium subscription

Next, we will soon be offering a new level of membership, called Premium. This subscription will not add any extra features to the slicer itself; we always said that the Pro would be the version that offers all the slicer functions.

It will provide additional services, like 4 activations per user, a specific channel on Discord for technical support, and cool little things like live stream sessions with team members and more.

We should launch this service in December 2021.

Black Friday

We’ve already been asked multiple times, yes, we’ll be running Black Friday promotions… but on the new price.

An aside

Not everyone knows this, but creativity is important at Mango 3D. The majority of the Lychee Slicer team is made up of people who do 3D printing, drawing, miniature painting, even sculpting, laser engraving, CNC, some livestreaming showing their process and we even have a youtuber (me!).

Friday afternoons are dedicated in the company to having a creative time, where team members can work on creative projects. Why is it so important to us? The answer is another question: How can we make software for creative people if we are not creative ourselves? We have to say that we are lucky to work in this industry! You may have seen our Halloween video, all this was done in-house.
